Communication was easy throughout, and the host organised transport to and from a restaurant for our anniversary when we asked, which was really appreciated. “We just loved our time there. Alyson and Tony are so kind and welcoming and always there if you need them. The house has everything you could possibly need and the views from the balcony take your breath away. The plunge pool is a great asset. The location is great for some of the best beaches on the island and two great restaurants within walking distance. Harvey was there to drive us on our supermarket runs and to the beaches and Shirley Heights. He's friendly, punctual and very reliable. “Our stay was a delight from start to finish. Alyson and Tony were quick to respond to any queries and the cottage has everything you need. The view from the bedroom balconies is stunning and the location is perfect for some of the best beaches and within easy reach of the supermarket. Harvey was on hand to drive everywhere for a reasonable fee and was friendly and punctual. The outside deck and plunge pool were perfect for some lazy days and the surroundings quiet and tranquil. There are two good restaurants within walking distance and Jolly Harbour and it's gorgeous beach were just a five minute drive with Harvey taking us there and back whenever we wanted. Special shout out to Sandra's bar! Harvey also drove us to Shirley Heights for the weekly party and barbeque which is a must see. To finish I couldn't recommend Shell Cottage highly enough and we will definitely return. Alyson and Tony are warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. Thank you both for a great time”

“I really enjoyed my stay at Alyson's cottage, it was private, and close to everything. Everything was clean and she provided juice, water, and paper towels to get me started.
The pool was a nice touch and it was private, clean and there was an outside shower with hot and cold water. There was a table and chairs for four with two loungers.
I don’t recommend leaving the door to the deck open if mosquitos like you, but other than that, it was a pleasurable stay. Alyson provided a tennis racket zapper for the mosquitos, which was greatly appreciated. They love my blood. Lol!
Everything was easy and I appreciated the added security of the front gate.

“Our stay at the shell cottage was great! The location was private and had private fencing which made it feel safe. The house was clean and cozy! Saveena was helpful with all communication prior to our arrival. We didn’t need anything additional during our stay, but Alyson and Tony were readily available and responsive once we arrived. Check in and check out were seamless. They provided some local recommendations for restaurants. I would recommend staying here and look forward to returning in the future.”
“Alyson and Tony are wonderful hosts. We made a stop at grocery store en route and he met us there to guide us to the house, which is an an primo location in a nice neighborhood. Upon arrival he and Alyson were very welcoming and extremely helpful. The house is exactly as described and depicted - great living area and kitchen downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs. The private yard made for excellent security and the tropical foliage was so cool, especially with the well-maintained plunge pool that we used often.
On our first night we walked down to the excellent Fox House restaurant. While dining on the porch a big downpour came. A little while later Alyson arrived to check that we were ok and not caught in it. Her thoughtfulness and kind heart did not go unnoticed.
The best is that the house is so close to several spectacular beaches. We liked Darkwood the best of them. Jolly Harbour is just a mile or so away, too.

“Excellent location and nice layout to the house. Off road parking very useful. Flexible with an early check in, but it did mean that some of the crockery hadn't been cleaned, though flat itself was very clean. The air-conditioning wasn't working but someone did come out to look at it as soon as I notified the host and it was fixed the following night. Nice, large fridge and washing machine and decent kitchen. Communication-wise, there were some crossed wires at the start regarding payment of the security deposit, and took some time for it to be refunded after our stay. That aside, good communication.”

“The house Alyson and Tony has built is really special. I appreciated the complimentary snack basket and beverages in the fridge when I arrived. The house was very clean and fully equipped with everything you would need for a comfortable stay. I enjoyed the private pool in the mornings and in the late afternoons after a long day at the beach. I did not rent a car and opted to walk to the nearby beaches during my stay which was doable for me. I went to Valley Church, Little Ffryes, Ffryes, Darkwood and Jolly Beach. All the beaches were beautiful but my favorites were Darkwood and Ffryes. You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas at all the beaches nearby. There are 2 restaurants within a 5-7 minute walk from the house- Sun Fusion and The Fox House. The supermarket is a very short drive away and I had the cab driver stop there on my way to the Airbnb from the airport. I had a lovely time and would book again with Alyson and Tony.”

“Alyson’s place was perfect. We travelled for the first time overseas with two toddlers (2 and 3.5) and we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
The beaches nearby are amazing. Calm and shallow water for young kids at Valley Church beach. We also visited Ffryes and Jolly but preferred Valley Church to the others.
The grocery store was a short drive and had everything we needed.
We recommend having a car with very young children. While the beaches and store are walkable, the walk would be very long with little kids (and quite hot)!
The pool was a welcome change in the afternoon and the bedrooms were perfectly cool for sleep at night. The downstairs has fans but the AC from upstairs travels down so it’s never too hot.

The house was perfect for us and within walking distance of a very good restaurant (The Fox House). The other houses close by were very quiet making the yard and pool an oasis. The beaches nearest to the houses turned out to be some of the best beaches on the island (we drove around the whole island a couple of times). If you wanted, you could walk to the beaches and grocery store but it would be a bit of a hike. Definitely recommend this house and these hosts!”

“Alyson and Tony’s place was absolutely perfect for our week long trip to Antigua. Alyson was so responsive and helpful both before and during our trip. Check in was quick and easy, helped by a very friendly and welcoming Alyson meeting us at the property. She also gave us a few numbers for car hire and taxis which was a big help. The hosts have thought of everything you might need for an easy and comfortable stay and the place is very homely and nicely decorated. In our opinion, the best beaches on the island are the ones close by and walking distance away. We hired a car for 3 days which was enough for us - we walked or got the bus to more local spots on the other days. We had a later flight home and Alyson very kindly let us leave bags and use one of the bathrooms and towels after checkout so we could shower before our flight. The place is very good value for money and we would love to stay there again! Thanks for being such great hosts - we will be recommending to everyone we know!”

The pool was great for refreshing afternoon dips. The bedrooms are both a decent size with air con and the living space downstairs had some very comfy sofas. We would definitely recommend this place”
“We had a fabulous week staying in Valley Church. Alyson & Tony were very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We were able to check out a little later on our last day which made a big difference to us. The property was spotless and very homely. We loved having the plunge pool even though the nearest beach is a 5 minute walk away. We also walked to other equally beautiful beaches nearby and were able to walk into Jolly Harbour in around 20 mins. We ate at the Fox House restaurant at the bottom of the road which was excellent and highly recommended but also made very good use of the BBQ. A shout-out to Lamex who works at the car rental place opposite who was at our beck and call all week taking us here and there. Ffryes Beach and Dennis' beach bar were fabulous, but really all the beaches were stunning. We did the Shirley Heights experience on a Thursday night rather than on a Sunday which was much quieter and without queues for food and drinks and loved English Harbour”

“Amazing Antiguan accommodation! Located close to some of the best beaches on the island and within easy reach of Jolly Harbour. We hired a car from the local rental business and explored much of the island and soon realised it is arguably in one of the best locations on the island. The pool is South facing and gets the sun all day. Darkwood, Ffryes, Turners and Valley church beaches, all within a 3 to 5 minute drive. The ‘local’ Foxhouse is a 2-3 minute walk. Overall the accommodation is immaculate. Exceptional wi-fi, decent sized fridge freezer, abundance of cooking utensils and equipment - a great BBQ, shower in the garden and the pool. Just the right size. It’s a plunge pool but easily big enough for two people to relax in on an inflatable,every detail has been very well thought out and presented by the ultimate hosts Alyson and Tony who are wonderful, friendly people. Don’t hesitate to book Sugarfields - we loved it and will almost definitely return some day. Recommended.”

We enhanced our stay by hiring a car for 3 weeks and saw most of the island.
Tony and Alyson gave us good advice where to eat and we enjoyed the experiences.
They were quick to rectify any discrepancies or issues we encountered even to the the extent of driving us to the airport when our Taxi service failed to turn up.

“We had a fabulous time staying at Alyson & Tony’s lovely house. It was lovely to arrive to touches such as a welcome pack of snacks and some items in the fridge. As others have mentioned, the place looked great from the photos already, but even more spectacular in real life, including the views of the forest one direction and sea the other from the bedroom balconies.
The house is so well situated for exploring all around the area and you can get to most places by car in around 45 mins to 1 hour. There are some stunning beaches around, our favourite was Darkwood. We enjoyed going to Miracles restaurant on our last evening. There’s also some great local bars around. The Epicurian supermarket is less than 5 mins by car & has a great selection of everything you might need.
Whilst the beaches were great to go to, we also spent a fair time at the pool, which was a perfect size for our 10 years olds and us.
Alyson was helpful with any questions we had and a pleasure to get to meet.”

The home is comfortable, the kitchen fully supplied, the garden with the pool offers privacy, the view from the rooms balcony is breathtaking, and the place is at walking distance from great beaches (Jolly, Valley Church, Darkwood, Ffryes), supermarket and restaurants.
We've chosen to not rent a car but Alyson told us the company neighbor to the house offers discounts to the guests ;)
overall just an amazing stay. Can't recommend it enough. If friends or family comes to the magnificent Antigua we'll certainly recommend Alyson's and Tony's house. I for sure will go back there if I'm back to Antigua.”

Home had everything we could want, lovely clean pool, BBQ, plenty of clean towels etc.

“This place is truly great, its clean, comfortable, quiet and the pool is fantastic. Alyson & Tony are fabulous hosts, they will sort any possible tiny problem immediately and are so very friendly and helpful. From their place it will take 15/20 minutes to walk into Jolly Harbour where there is a good supermarket and bars, in the other direction from the villa the beach is also only 10 minutes max walk and there is a great restaurant (Fox House) just at the end of the lane to the villa. The bus stop into St Johns is just at the end of the lane and costs $1.50 per person. There is also a car rental opposite the villa. So what more can you want! I totally recommend this place for a holiday as it is so lovely and Tony & Alyson are just wonderful hosts and I will certainly be recommending it to my friends. Thank you Tony & Alson for a fantastic holiday.”
“Should you go to Antigua? YES! Is Sugar Fields Holiday Home a great place to stay? YES! Are Alyson and Tony wonderful hosts? YES! I cannot recommend all three highly enough... and I have stayed in many, many vacation rental homes over the last 30 years.
Antigua is beautiful! I had never been to the Caribbean; Antigua exceeded my high expectations. The beaches were incredibly scenic and clean and the water was bright turquoise, calm and warm. I felt like I was living in the pictures in a "gorgeous beaches" calendar! Alyson and Tony's house was very close to many super beaches; Valley Church, Fryes, Darkwood and a few other beaches are under 5 minutes away by car. We visited six beaches during our 8-day stay and loved each one - the three mentioned above, plus Galleon and Pigeon Point beaches in English Harbor and an unnamed beach near Hermitage Bay; this last one was my personal favorite :-). None of these beaches was crowded and parking was easy.
The people we met in Antigua were so open, friendly and welcoming! We had many interesting conversations; it felt easy and natural to just start talking with folks. All shared a love for and pride in their island and happiness that we were enjoying it so much.
I don't think I've ever visited a place that has so many great places to eat... and very near the house! A few of our favorites include Dennis Beach Bar and Restaurant on the north end of Frye Beach (best lobster in my life); Petal's Cafe in Jolly Harbour; and Capt'n Taco food stand just south of the house on Valley Road. BEST rum punch ($5!) mixed by Carla at the small Sunset Horizon Restaurant and Bar at the NORTH end of Darkwood Beach.
STAY more than a week if you possibly can! We had time for only a taste of so many great beaches and places to eat; we never even got to the "sights."
Now... the house! The pictures are accurate but being there is way better! You won't be disappointed; guaranteed. The house is super clean and bright with many windows. It is well-designed and the finishes throughout the house are high quality and attractive. The two bedrooms upstairs are really spacious, each with a pretty, full bathroom and a stunning ocean view from the private balconies. Lots of storage for clothes, too. My favorite place was the deck and pool! It was so relaxing to be out there enjoying the sunshine and a cool dip in the pool during the day and playing cards together outside at night. We had plenty of space for the four of us.
Tony and Alyson recommended Tropical Rentals to rent a car and I'm so glad we did! It was the easiest and friendliest car rental ever. We took a taxi from the airport to the house ($42 per couple), and the next day rented our car. They are next door neighbors! Literally, walk one minute to their office from the house (you can see their cars from the bedroom window). They were so nice, helpful, and easy to deal with! They also provided lots of suggestions for places to go. And on the (sad) day we had to leave, we didn't even have to drive anywhere. Tropical Rentals staff just walked down to our house, checked out the car, and took it back to their lot. Soon after, they came and picked us up and drove us to the airport - because ends up they also provide taxi service! I'd have pre-booked with them for a ride from the airport if I'd known; we really liked them and love supporting a local business with such nice people :-) (Search "Tropical Rental, car rental, Antigua" and bypass the ad websites - I'd give their website, but I think Airbnb won't show it...)
Alyson and Tony are some of the nicest and most interesting people we've met. They gave us a warm and genuine welcome when we arrived and spent time with us to make sure we knew everything we needed to. Our few questions during the week were promptly and thoroughly answered and check out was easy and stress-free. Their pride in the house and their island was clear, as was their sincerity in wanting us to have a fantastic vacation... which we definitely did, thanks to Alyson and Tony!
Before this trip, I thought that if we returned to the Caribbean someday (from Washington State, so NOT a quick trip), we'd probably check out another island. After staying at Alyson's and Tony's Sugar Fields Holiday Home on beautiful Antigua, I know we will return there, and I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else! Alyson and Tony, thank you for making your beautiful house available to us and for all the ways you helped make our experience wonderful... we will be back! :-)”

“Fantastic location, 5-15 min walk from some of the best beaches on the island but also close to Jolly Harbour and a number of food outlets. Two large bedrooms with en suites. Great kitchen superbly equipped and gas barby too. Plenty of nice outdoor furniture a lovely dip pool. When it’s time for a sundowner try the great sea views from the 1st floor balconies. Tony and Alyson are also lovely hosts. A rare high quality 5star property in this part of Antigua!”

“A home away from home”
“Alyson and Tony are amazing hosts. Their hospitality is off the charts, checking in to ensure we had everything we needed and offering assistance with any questions. They even had snacks, chilled water, ice and beverages upon arrival. Home: The home is exacting as pictured. The home is in a quiet, safe neighborhood with a gate that locks. Their attention to detail in the construction and amenities are impeccable. The bedroom balconies offer a view of the ocean. We even saw a full rainbow one day! The foliage and fence provide natural beauty and privacy. Details in the bedrooms include ensuite bathrooms, luggage mats for the bed, a throw rug at the bed side, plenty of hangers, shampoo, conditioner, feminine product, soap and coasters in the bedrooms. The kitchen has everything you need if you prefer to cook some or all of your meals. There is a washing machine and a bug zapper racquet if you need it. All of the windows lock and have screens. Leave the doors closed and windows open to minimize bugs. The pool is fabulous. It is the perfect size to take a refreshing morning and evening dip. They even have a floatie and ball. The Internet has 100% uptime and I didn't have interruptions or latency with video conferencing. Beyond this stunning home explore this breath taking island: Location: The property is on the west (Caribbean) side of the Island. The water is calmer and the sunsets are gorgeous. It is couple minute drive to fabulous beaches including some of our favorites Fryes Beach, Coco Bay and Jolly Harbour Beach. If you go to Hermitage Bay the dirt road to the right takes you to Hermitage bay and parking area. There is a trail at the end of the beach by the rocks that has some great views. The paved road to the left takes you to a new development with building lots for sale. There is a guard at the gate. Ask him if you can take a look. There are a couple great secluded beaches. The beaches on this island are public. English Harbour is about 45 minutes and the airport is about 30-35 minutes. Food: We have travelled throughout the Caribbean. This is a foodie island! There are many excellent restaurants nearby with a variety of cuisine. Fox's at the end of the road, a small Roti Place, Miracles. Fryes Beach has Dennis Restaurant (the curry goat is wonderful), Coco Beach has Sheer Rocks (the only place we found grouper). Jolly Harbour complex has Bodog (Indian Food and they recently launched their own beer - Bodog Beer which is brewed by 2SIX8 brewery in English Harbour), Al Porto (Italian/Fish), Balisco (Italian), West Point Kitchen (Fish, tasty jerk chicken and the tuna is outstanding), Akropolis Greek Restaurant. Some restaurants are resuming entertainment like bands, karaoke, etc. as tourism starts to resume. People: Travelling is always an eye opening experience and an opportunity to see the world from a different perspective. Take time to talk to the locals. The people on this island are industrious entrepreneurs. This is truly challenging times for people around the world who are out of work. Navigating the Island: The map that comes with the rental car is not accurate. Road signs are sparse or missing. The west and the south is easy to navigate. It is difficult to get your baring's elsewhere on the island if you are new to the island. Google directions are not reliable because the island relies on names, locations and land marks rather than addresses. Make sure you have data on your phone to help you get your barings on the island. It will help you know if you took a wrong turn. We used Google maps street view to show the landmarks at each turn. This helped tremendously. There are pot holes, speed bumps and divets. The Car rental company advised us that tires are our responsibility. Go slow over these diversions and buy insurance. Rules of Road. Roads are narrow and generally 2 lane. Cars park on the road making the roads one way. We observed, the first car to go around the parked car has the right of way. 1 quick beeps of the horn or a double flash of lights is used to signal other driver to go. Car horns are used as a courteous and are not a gesture of anger. If you need help with directions, just stop and ask. The locals are very nice and willing to help. Excursions: Zipling was on our bucket list. The Antigua Rain Forest Zipling tour was fun and safe. The team was attentive and conscientious about ensuring people were tethered and safe. We also chose Creole Antigua Tours for a snorkeling trip to Bird Island and Long Island. My husband gets sea sick and we thought a power catamaran would minimize the rocking of the boat. The crew is personable, knowledgeable and amazing. Due to the reduced tourism we only had 10 tourist on the boat. It was an amazing experience and lunch was tasty! Covid Testing: Prior to arrival the country requires a PCR test. Print out your results. Prior to returning to the US you will need an Antigen test. St John Medical Center offers Covid testing but the reviews were not very good. We chose to go to the Antigua Yacht Club Resort for testing. It was $100. Our appointment was at 9am and they had printed results available at the yacht club by 1pm. If you chose to wait for the results, you can go to Nelson's Dockyard and Museum, Shirley Heights and the Interpretation center while you wait. If you prefer to receive the results via email, the results will be emailed by end of day. We had to call the next day to have the results emailed. Our gracious hosts, printed the results and delivered the results to the house. I also heard of others paying $150 for test in Jolly Harbour but...”

“This property is really a gem.
It is cozy, well-decorated, with amazing views, a lovely private pool and fully stocked so that you can cater for yourself if you choose to.
It is located very near to four very popular beaches and also close to several restaurants in case self-catering is not your jam.
If you are not local and in need of a rental, I noted there was a rental car facility near by.
I checked in with family for a low-key COVID appropriate birthday celebration and the three of us had such a good time. I could, however, see that the property would be great for romantic getaways or even solo trips if you want some time to destress and enjoy a new environment.
The hosts were a pleasure, as well. They communicated excellently, were gracious and were very willing to ensure our stay was a pleasurable one.
The property was spotless and there were several lovely touches to make it personal. I have always been hesitant about the idea of an AirBNB choosing hotels instead but this has completely changed my view. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alyson and her husband to anyone looking for a great property either for a quick weekend / overnight stay or longer term.”

“Had a blast for a week at Alyson & Tony's! The two-story house is breezy and filled with natural light all day. The back deck is excellent, with both sun and shade when you need it. As a couple, there's loads of space, probably very comfortable with 4 guests. The pool is great for a refreshing dip. Air conditioned bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. Upstairs balconies have nice views.
Location is very good with world class beaches very close by. The closest is Valley Church beach, just 5 min on foot. We found the beaches a bit further south (Darkwood, Turners) a step up from Valley Church, but they're all worth visiting. Good supermarket Epicurean is less than 5 min away by car. Alyson and Tony are great hosts who made sure we had everything we needed. Great place to relax and enjoy the sun and sand in Antigua!”

“Our stay at Alyson and Tony's property has been nothing short of fantastic. It's in a great location, close to everything you need. The rooms are a great size and lovely and cool at night, with the balconies offering fantastic views overlooking the sea.
Most importantly, Alyson and Tony were incredibly responsive, making sure we had everything we need, helping us arrange taxis and giving us tips on what to do on the island. They were even kind enough to accommodate my friend and I at short notice at another of their properties when we were unable to board our flight to the US.

Were absolutely phenomenal. They were so nice and understanding when we encountered car issues on our day of arrival and had to check in far later than planned. Their check-in process is extremely easy and their home is beautiful with new updated finishes that we loved.
The pool was fantastic even though the temperature at night dropped to low to get in the water. We enjoyed sitting out by the pool looking up at the stars.
Alyson and Tony were extremely responsive and resolved all minor issues quickly.

“Really lovely location in Valley Church and very quiet which we enjoyed a lot. We were here over New Year and could see two different fireworks from the balconies on the first floor. Really lovely views. The house had everything we needed and was thoughtfully prepared for us as guests with little details. There is a hire car/taxi business right near the property so Tony put us in touch with them which helped us to organise our airport transfer.”

“This was our first Airbnb experience and Alyson and Tony have set the bar extremely high. All you need is food and soap. Can't beat that! Beaches and several restaurants are within walking distance. The house was exceptionally clean. We felt very comfortable and safe. The pool is a huge plus for days when you just want to chill and hang out around the house. I was not at all expecting for Alyson to check on us frequently (via email) and provide such helpful tips. Finally, I would encourage everyone to try her homemade Caribbean meal. De-li-cious! That Pumpkin soup...my goodness! Huge thank you to Tony for the unexpected trip to the market. This is beyond a great value. You won't be disappointed. We are definitely planning our return trip to Sugar Fields Holiday Home.”

“I booked Sugar Ridge Holiday Home as a staycation for my Mom's Birthday and she was extremely pleased with her stay. I stayed during the day with her so of course I got to experience the home for myself and let me tell you, It's one of the best places I've booked so far. It was what I expected and more from the decor to the cleanliness. You can see that a lot of thought was put into the home. Communication with the host was on point. Tony whom I met was very friendly from the start of our stay to the day we checked out. The pool was quite lovely, it was not too deep so even if your not a swimmer you definitely would be able to enjoy it. The Kitchen had everything I needed to prepare our meals, it even had plastic wares which was awesome because I do have a 3 year old toddler. Overall our stay was really great and I would recommend and definitely stay here again.
