The Playful Otter – Rustic Cottage Escape to the cozy Playful Otter, a charming rustic cottage at Smith’s Bay Getaway on beautiful Round Lake. Perfect for couples, families, or a small group of friends, this inviting retreat sleeps up to four guests with two queen beds. Spend your days swimming, kayaking, fishing, or relaxing by the water, then gather around the campfire under the stars. It’s the perfect place to slow down, reconnect, and make unforgettable lakeside memories. Please note that the woods are not ours, so please stay out of them. When you come into the yard, the septic is in front of the cottage, so please do not park there. Please stay to the far left when driving in, away from the swing set. Enjoy the entire Playful Otter Cottage, where you’ll have the whole property to yourself. Relax around the outdoor fire pit, unwind on the private dock, or enjoy the spacious yard with plenty of room to play and make lasting memories. Inside, you’ll find two comfortable bedrooms, a full bathroom, a fully stocked kitchen, and a cozy living room featuring a wood-burning fireplace. The large sunroom is the perfect place to gather for meals, play cards or board games, or simply sit back and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Please do not drink or cook with the tap water, as it is untreated lake water. We recommend bringing bottled drinking water or using the water cooler provided for drinking and cooking.

  • Registered Guests Only
  • Only registered guests included in your reservation are permitted on the property during your stay. If your booking is for 8 guests, no additional visitors or overnight guests are allowed without prior approval.
  • If additional guests arrive without authorization, the booking guest will be charged the applicable extra guest fee. Unauthorized guests may also result in the reservation being terminated without a refund.
  • No Smoking or Vaping: Smoking or vaping is not permitted anywhere inside the house. Any evidence of smoking or vaping indoors may result in additional cleaning or repair charges.
  • Please do not wear shoes or boots or outside foot wear in the house. Please no eat in the bedrooms.
  • Please keep your dog on our property and out of the neighbour’s yard and the wooded area between the cottages, as that land belongs to our neighbours.
  • Please do not allow excessive barking, and always clean up after your pet. Dispose of pet waste in the garbage.
  • Please clean the BBQ before you leave.
  • Follow all local fire bans. If a fire is lit during a fire ban and results in a fine, the registered guest is responsible for paying any fines.
  • Please do not park on the grass in front of the cottage, as the septic system is located there.
  • There is parking for up to two vehicles inside the gate. Please park just inside the gate (leaving enough room to close it) or outside the gate
  • Fire Ban & Fire Safety
  • Guests must follow all local fire bans and fire restriction guidelines during their stay.
  • No campfires are permitted during a fire ban.
  • If fire restrictions are in effect, campfires are only allowed during the permitted hours.
  • No fireworks are allowed at any time.
  • No large gatherings.
  • Absolutely no parties.
  • Failure to comply with these rules will result in the immediate termination of your stay and immediate evacuation from the property, without a refund.
  • Fires are permitted only in the designated fire pit.
  • Never leave a fire unattended.
  • Make sure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving or going to bed.
  • Please follow all local fire bans and restrictions.
  • Before You Check Out
  • Before leaving, we kindly ask that you
  • Place all garbage in the clear garbage bags provided and recycling separating cans/bottles in one container and cardboard in another container put in recycling outdoor bins provided. Please do not mix recycling and garbage. Waste site will not take it then.
  • Put all used sheets and towels in the laundry hamper provided.
  • Clean the BBQ if you used it.
  • Leave the cottage tidy and ensure all personal belongings have been taken with you.

“My family of four had a great stay at Rowan 's place. Rowan is a great host, very quick response, very reliable and resourceful. Beautiful lake, we had our own boat, we caught various fish such as pike, large mouse bass, sunfish, perch. We enjoyed sitting together beside the campfire looking at the starry sky. For us it was a good gateway from busy life. Thanks Rowan.”

“We just spent 6 nights at Smiths Bay Getaway with our two dogs and had such a lovely week! The cottage has the perfect vintage, rustic charm and is situated right on the lake with absolutely beautiful views.
We loved how much there was to enjoy without ever having to leave — plenty of outdoor space for games and relaxing in the sun, swimming off the dock, evenings around the campfire, and playing cards inside with a few drinks at the end of the day. The cottage was comfortable, cozy, and equipped with everything we needed for our stay.
Don and Rowan were also incredibly friendly, welcoming, and responsive throughout our visit, which made the experience even better.
We absolutely loved our time at Smiths Bay Getaway and made some wonderful memories here. We would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing cottage getaway and hope to come back again soon!”
