With a partial river view, private entrance, and cozy character you simply cannot find in a modern rental, this serene hideaway is the perfect base for your next Midwest river adventure. Built in early 1900''s, this charming and updated cozy cottage-style home offers the perfect blend of comfort and unique charm of an older home. The inviting patio provides an ideal space for relaxing. Nestled among trees, the home feels peaceful and private. Enjoy a partial river view from the property. “Make the most of your getaway with nearby river adventures! Green Gables, located just ½ mile from the home, offers boat, pontoon boat, and jet ski rentals for a fun day on the Mississippi! 🚂 Railroad Tracks & Train Noise The home is located across the street from active railroad tracks. Trains operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.. you will hear them! Air Conditioning This is a historic home built in the 1900s and, like many older homes, it was not designed with modern central HVAC or ductwork. For this reason, the home is cooled with window air-conditioning units rather than central. For your comfort, window air-conditioning units are provided to cool the main living areas and bedrooms. Each unit can be adjusted individually to your preferred temperature. Location and Setting of home: “The home is located across a public road from the Mississippi River. It is not directly on the riverfront , but because the property sits on a high hill, guests can enjoy a partial view of the Mississippi River from the home. The public road and active train track separates the property from the river.” Kitchen: Keurig, toaster, blender, hand mixer, and milk frother. The table easily folds out to seat 4. Living room: comfortable seating for 4 that over looks the river. Feel free to move the chairs around for convenience . That's the reason for the light chairs,so you can move them to fit your needs. The TV is equipped with Roku featuring guest mode so you can sign in to your favorite streaming service. There is also an antenna so you can watch local channels as well. There is an assortment of games available. Bathroom: you’ll find shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispenser in the shower. There is a blow dryer under the sink along with a basket of assorted travel size toiletries. Master bedroom: queen size bed equipped with plugs on either side for charging your device. Bedside lamps also have a USB charging ports on either side (port is located on the back of the lamp base). There is a desk with power strip to plug in and charge your electronics. The TV is equipped with Roku guest mode and has an antenna for local channel viewing. Bedroom 2: queen size bed with outlets on either side of the bed for charging devices. Closet is set up to mimic a vanity for those times everyone needs to get ready at the same time. Outdoor: patio table with seating for 6 overlooking the Mississippi River. The fire pit with seating is located in the rear. Downtown Leclaire is walkable but would have to walk on side of highway for a few blocks Laundromat 1/4 mile from house Full service grocery store 1/2 miles from house McDonald's ,Culver's , Chinese restaurant , Kwik Star are all walkable distance from house I-80 is only 1/2 mile from house 24 minutes to Davenport, Iowa 32 minutes to Clinton, Iowa 23 minutes to Quad Cities International Airport A Little About Our Natural Setting 🦋🐝 Because the home is located near the Mississippi River, seasonal insects and bugs are a normal part of the area, particularly during certain times of the year. While we do our best to keep the home clean and comfortable, we cannot completely eliminate insects in a natural environment near the river. We are also intentionally trying to preserve and support our local bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. You may notice flowering plants and natural areas around the property that are designed to provide a welcoming environment for them. We appreciate your understanding and help in respecting these little visitors. 🐝🦋There is bug spray in the house for your convenience Just to clarify, the thermostat is not connected to the window AC unit. The AC is a separate unit and is operated directly from the controls on the unit. This is the setup for the property and is also reflected in the listing. Water Sensor Notice For the protection of the home, a water sensor/monitor is installed in the property to help detect unexpected water leaks or moisture. The sensor is not a camera and does not record audio or video. It is used solely to help protect the home and respond quickly to potential water issues. Pet Policy Notice: * We welcome dogs only at our property. No other animals or pets are permitted, including cats, birds, rabbits, reptiles, rodents, or other companion animals. One dog is permitted per stay. We ask that all dogs be well-behaved, house-trained, up to date on flea and tick medication, and supervised at all times. For the safety and comfort of future guests, we also require that dogs do not sleep on the furniture and that you clean up after them both inside and outside the property. While we welcome well-behaved dogs at our property, please note that guests are fully responsible for their pets during their stay. “This little house is cute and very private, but we didn’t realize that it is quite as small as it is, nor that there is not central air. Our 20 year old son came with us and was overheated both nights because there was not even a window unit in the 2nd bedroom. Additionally, the seating arrangement and furniture position/options in the living room are not comfortable for more than 1 person to sit and watch tv. Lastly, we were violently awakened both nights with an obnoxious train horn that came by twice in the 2am hour. We had perhaps the worst sleep ever here overall. Other than those issues, Diana was a great host. I just wish the listing was more clear about the no-central AC issue with it being some of the hottest/most humid days of the summer. We would not have stayed here if I had realized that. So plan accordingly and stay when it’s cold, bring ear plugs, and don’t plan to watch tv as a group, and you’ll enjoy the little blue nook!”

“We had a fantastic stay at the Blue Nook in LeClaire, Iowa. Diana was very responsive and provided clear check-in instructions, making our arrival seamless.
The property itself is charming and comfortable, with a prime location offering great views of the Mississippi River to watch the eagles and barge’s from inside or on the patio.
The interior is cozy and nicely decorated, the kitchen was fully equipped for preparing meals and the beds were very comfortable.
LeClaire is a delightful small town with a historic downtown full of unique shops, restaurants, and friendly vibes. Being so close to the river and within walking distance to many attractions made this the ideal base for our getaway.
We truly enjoyed our stay and highly recommended the Blue Nook.”

Downside was the cobwebs built up behind the bathroom door, under the bathroom vanity built up over the spare toilet paper and in corners. Linens seemed fresh, but it felt like the house needed attention in corners.”

Hosts were great at communicating instructions and details for our stay. While we were out there was a power outage in the area and they reached out with an update to let us know about the situation and when it was expected to be resolved. Fortunately, power was already back on when we got back. We will keep this location in mind for any future visits.”

“The little Blue Cottage is very charming. Updated and very cozy. We enjoyed our stay. The only take away was the heating system and thermostat. The heat is extreme in the master and cold in the rest of the house. The thermostat went to some reset a few nights to wake to 50 degrees, which was fixed remotely by host. It was difficult to use.
Absolutely loved everything else about the beautiful cottage.”

“I had a wonderful stay. The cottage is very peaceful and cozy. It was easy to be able to work from home during the day, then visit with family in the evenings and come back to a restful night at the cottage. The main bed is super comfortable, not sure what kind of mattress is on there, but already miss it! It took a little getting used to the trains at all hours of the night. I will definitely recommend a stay to anyone visiting the area and will come again the next time I visit, for work or pleasure. Five Stars all around!!!”

If I had one recommendation, it would be to have smaller pillows (less puffy) on the beds. They were a bit tall and hurt the neck a bit! Otherwise, no worries…everything else was great! Thanks!”
“I was a little apprehensive when some people reported the noise from the train. However, it didn’t wake us up or bother us. We rather enjoyed watching it go by and hearing the whistle. It was an excellent location for the things we wanted to do and see. We would stay here again.”

There was an AC unit in the cabin, but it was not large enough to cool the whole cabin and it was very humid and uncomfortable. There was also a train across the road that went by frequently. Cabin is small, but well maintained.”
