“I stayed at Daniel’s home for about a month and a half while waiting for my lease to begin. Although I’ve lived in New York for two years, I hadn’t spent much time in Astoria before — and Daniel’s place, just off Steinway Street, turned out to be the perfect spot. It was incredibly convenient and made getting around Astoria — and New York City in general — a breeze.

“Overall I enjoyed my stay. However, there was hair in the shower when I first got there and there was not a pleasant smell in the room. The hosts mother lives in the apartment and for the most part we did not cross paths since I worked from 9-5 on weekdays. One day I came home to the the apartment filed with smoke and I discovered that the hosts mother was burning something and the apartment smelled horribly for close to 2 weeks!
Towards the end of my stay the host and his mother came beating on my door at 9pm accusing me of fighting with someone in the room (which was absurd). I told them that it was not true yet they insisted that I allow them in the room to make sure I was alone. The Host and his mother was very hostile during this encounter, which I did not appreciate but most importantly there was no one in the room with me!
There are lost of food places nearby but If you drive you will have difficulty finding parking.
Overall, I would not live here again!”

The location is great! 5 minutes by walk to a subway station, trains arrive very often. I always feel safe even if I come back home lately at night.
You can find nearby everything you need: grocery shops, laundries, pharmacy, bars and cafes, yoga studio, etc.
The apartment was always clean. There were Nancy and one more guest. It was always calm. I didn’t see Nancy and other guest very often, so sometimes I can even pretend that I rent an apartment, not a room😅
Wi-fi connection is great, I could have zoom and Skype calls without experiencing any problems.
Nancy was very friendly with me and was always ready to help me if necessary.
Several times during my visit the toilet broke down, but Daniel and Nancy tried their best to fix it as soon as possible.

“I had a great experience staying at Daniel's place. It was a small room but it was perfect for what I was looking for. There is limited space in the closet if you plan on staying there for a month+, but as long as you are aware of that then you will have no problems.
Nancy, who is Daniel's mom lives in the apartment. She is the sweetest lady! I got sick within a week or so of moving to New York and she was concerned and gave me good suggestions.
The apartment is located just two blocks away from the train station and close to a lot of delicious restaurants.
There is a bagel place less than a block away on Broadway with really good sandwiches and a variety of spreads. There's a rite aid right next to the station and a greek food truck two blocks away from the apartment by that train station that was very delicious, affordable and available for late night eats.

“It was an absolute pleasure staying in this apartment. I didn't meet Daniel until the last day, but his mother was there in the apartment with me and was very friendly, helpful, and kind. Anything I needed or any questions I had about the room or the area she assisted with. The Bed was comfortable and the kitchen, shower, and AC were fully functional. Its located right by the subway in a safe neighborhood-- I felt completely comfortable walking the two blocks from the subway at night. The one thing to note is that it's on a third floor walk up so it's a bit of a trek getting suitcases up the flights. But there is rood access with a view of the city which is worth the climb.”

As advertised, it is extremely easy to get to and from Manhattan (and other parts of NYC) from this location, the Steinway station is 3 minute walk away and the Broadway station is fairly close as well. The neighborhood is also quite safe and there are lots of markets and restaurants nearby, some that are open quite late as well! The room itself was clean and the bed was comfortable. It is not a large room, but it is absolutely perfect for those who are planning to spend most of their time outside. The apartment itself is also quite nice, with a kitchen, microwave, and clean bathroom. Daniel himself was also quite a gracious host, agreeing to accommodate my relatively late arrival and being very understanding when flight delays pushed my arrival time either further back. He and his mother were very friendly and helpful!

“Daniel was a wonderful host, and his cozy, clean, and convenient room in Astoria/Queens was exactly what I was looking for! He is warm & helpful, knowledgable about the area, flexible with check-in and check-out times, and extremely easy to communicate with by phone or text message, even late at night.
This is a shared apartment with 1 permanent resident who isn't there often; 2 Air BnB bedrooms (I got one, and a medical student on rotation in NYC got the other); a small common space with a black leather couch; and a small but fully functional kitchen with gas stove & hood, fridge, microwave, blender, pots, pans, cutting board, knives, dishes, and utensils. It was great for someone like me who prepares many of my own meals due to food allergies.
The room I got was extremely clean, with a queen size memory foam/Tempur-Pedic type mattress, on which I slept like a baby. The bedroom was kept quite warm from the radiator, but there is a large window if you need some fresh air to cool it down, and it has blinds for privacy. Daniel's mom does the cleaning and keeps the place spick-and-span.
The location is a 5 minute walk to Steinway subway station, a 10 minute subway ride to the Upper East Side, and a 5-7 minute walk to some wonderful grocery/natural foods stores, and a RiteAid and Duane Reade. Daniel recommended Vitality Market on Broadway and 46th, which was wonderful--organic buffet breakfast & lunch bar, fresh juice bar, and groceries. There are at least 3 laundromats around the corner, including 1 that will do your laundry for you, and a dry cleaner nearby too.
The easiest way to get to and from the airport to here is to take a cab, unless you don't have a lot of luggage, because the subway stations in Queens only have stairs, no elevator or escalator as far as I know. I called Olympic car service (Daniel also suggests New Enrico's Car Service), and they were there right on time to take me to JFK. The cab costs about $35, and it took just under an hour during rush hour traffic.
I would most definitely stay here again, and recommend it to anyone needing a safe and affordable place to stay for a visit to Manhattan. Please do note that the room does not have a lot of floor space for luggage, so if there are two of you staying, I would pack light (like 2 carry-on luggages, max). There is a roomy dresser for storing clothing while you are there, and as a single person, I had plenty of room for my 1 medium luggage, and 1 large carryon. Thanks again, Daniel!”

He took care of us since the first moment while we connected in Airbnb answering many of our questions, also guided us to the apartment while we just arrived in JFK and when there was an uncertain gas problem while everybody was out for new year's eve celebration, he's very reliable.
Plus, every where at the apartment is super clean and comfortable (especially the BED is really really soft to make us sleep like a baby as many people said previously). The heater and shower water is warm and stable. When Daniel is not around, his brother & mom were very responsible as well to take care of any room facility. The location/ subway is really easy to everywhere in the city by a simple transition and short leading time ( this is definitely a BIG plus while travellers spend all day long out who need just a few minutes to get home safely no matter how late it is).

The first thing I noticed was the overall cleanness of the flat and how was properly organized and tied up.
The room was very comfortable with a memory foam mattress and pillow and enough space to keep your luggage and your belongings. The kitchen had all the kitchenware to allow you to cook and a big enough fridge to keep things in.
The flat is very well care and with appreciated size common areas.
But the best, was really how fast and easy was the way to Manhattan (10 min by subway) and the nice neighborhood around where you can find a diverse offer of restaurants, groceries stores, 24h stores and so on. It's really safe, well care and with easy to walk around.
I can't recommend more highly his flat and I would not hesitate to return back there in my future NY travels.
